It Occurs To Me

I don’t get into political issues very often but this one woke me up from my slumber. I couldn’t believe what I was reading in the newspaper.
On December 13, 2010, Henry E. Hudson, a federal judge in Virginia, ruled that "it is unconstitutional for the government to compel Americans to buy health insurance or pay a fine". This marks the first time a court has struck down any facet of the massive new law to overhaul the nation’s health-care system.
My first question is; who came up with this idea in the first place? I am not really up to speed on the health-care bill (which is 2,000 pages long) but it seems to me that this folly had to be instigated by the insurance lobbyists. It certainly works well for them. I really don’t understand how this provision could get so far as to be treated seriously; by the courts no less. And it isn’t over yet. The U. S. Supreme Court has to rule on it next.
My next question is; If 48 million Americans can’t afford spiraling cost of health insurance, how are they going to afford to pay the "fine"? How would you like to be the vulture in charge of collecting the fines? "Hey Butch" you are about to get a promotion! What happens to those who either refuse or can’t pay the fine? I suppose we are talking federal lien here; or could there be jail time? At least the homeless could get a good nights sleep. Isn’t it logical to assume that those who find it difficult to afford food and housing would also have a problem paying premiums for health insurance or the fine for not having coverage? Can you imagine the time and cost of trying to collect fines from so many people.
Bad ideas are sometimes formed through desperation. It makes me wonder if the federal deficit is going to have an even greater effect on the economy than we know. After propping up America's major corporations, the current administration wants the poor to help solve the healthcare issue. This seems to depart from the foundation of what the Democratic Party has traditionally been all about.
Judge Hudson ruled “it is an unprecedented expansion of federal power and cannot be justified under Congress’s authority to regulate interstate commerce”. I have a better reason to slap it down. It just isn’t a viable solution to the problem.
That is what occurs to me. Perhaps I am unenlightened. I welcome your comments.  mikeroche01@gmail.com http://www.healthcarediscountservices.com/
